La Paz - Puno / El Lago Titicaca

From La Paz to the side of the lake, The Cordillera Real with its Giants (including the Illumpu summit, 6368m) overhangs us. Sides of the lake are prosperous environnements with fertile soils and lots of fishes. Bolivian and Peruvian families are working in fields on road sides. They  collect potatoes, and meticulously spread it as rectangle on the ground. They all have one pig, 2 or 3 sheeps, a couple of cows, and sometimes, llamas. Welcoming, smilling in their colorous clothes, they greet and cheer us within working.

and getting out fishes from water.

Islands of the Titicaca lake

Uros, flotting islands
Completely in tutoras (rushs), these islands have an efficient and simple architecture.
Cubes of roots, fixed in the water wih rocks and stakes make the foundation of islands,
are covered by around 1 meter of  stems in various directions (miniature island on the right).
The white bottom of stems is eated by local populations.
Tutoras are also the material used to build boats and houses.

Amantani, the island of gods
Two peaks are central in this island,
nammed Patchatata et patchamama,
respectively for gods of the father earth and mother earth.
Checkerboards on slopes of these peaks are cultivated by wheat and potatoes.
We spend one night in a farmers family,
eating simple but really good dishes made by island products.

On the evening, wearing traditionnal ponchos and hats
for a folklore party.
